Where did you come up with the idea for this book?

My niece was visiting me in Beverly Hills when I lived there and we were swimming in the pool. She told me a boy from New Jersey was going to be coming by to pick her up, and that his sole goal in life was to ride a car on Daytona Beach. i couldn't get that boy out of my mind. He had everything except ambition.
